Though many of the companies are small, we expect to see a proven operating history. Profitability should be high. Financial position must be solid. Reasonable amounts of debt are acceptable but many Special Situation companies are debt-free, preserving their flexibility to finance expected rapid growth through whatever channels are most advantageous. Many invest aggressively in research and development.
